75 Powerful Ways to Reduce Your Anxiety and Build Your Confidence

Ready to reduce your anxiety, stop negative thinking, and build your confidence for professional success? Achieve true presence with The Confidence Book!

Are you ready to show yourself to the world?

Well, of course you are! You’ve been doing it every single day of your life.

Ah . . . but which you? The happy, confident, personable one? That “you” is everything you want it to be: competent, likable, intelligent (perhaps funny?), responsible, loving, empathetic, effective . . . and making a difference in the world.

Is that the 'you' that you show to others? Get the book that can be a life-changer! Let others see your abilities and potential through The Confidence Book. Also on Amazon.Dr. Gary Genard's book on changing negative thinking and living fully in the moment, The Confidence Book.

The Book That Helps Others Have Confidence In You

The problem, of course, is that you’re human—which means that like everyone else on the planet, part of your burden includes doubts, insecurities, fears, and past failures. It doesn’t matter if you’re a generally anxious person or someone whom others think of as a classic Type A personality—you still have to deal with these personal demons.

Do You Experience Self-Doubt? In my work as an actor, confidence coach and expert in performance-based speech training, I work with many high-level professionals who still find themselves (sometimes after many successful years in their profession), suddenly struggling with self-doubt and even panic attacks. My book on this topic, Fearless Speaking, was chosen in 2019 as "One of the 100 Best Confidence Books of All Time." Here it is on Amazon.

One of the insights I’ve gained over twenty-five years of work in this field is that this “slippage” of confidence isn’t as sudden or as related to one area of performance as the person dealing with the problem thinks it is. In other words, it’s always part of what’s going on in that person’s life as a whole. Most of the time, things have started to change in their personal life, professional life, or both. These changes may have been going on for some time, but often they are pushed aside or ignored.

When that happens, insecurities and fears can seem to reveal themselves all at once, in a straw-that-broke-the-camel’s-back moment. It isn’t the moment itself that causes the break; it’s simply the accumulation of some powerful forces that have been impinging on your well-being for some time. Those forces just happen to reveal themselves fully in that moment, so that they come starkly into view. What can happen then is that the safe and sturdy structure you believed you were living inside suddenly seems to crumble. (Here's my Free Tips and Tricks Guide on "How to Speak to a Large Audience Without Fear." And here's my Free cheat sheet on "5 Ways to Recover From a Brain Freeze," if you find yourself in that situation.)

Turn Yourself On to Some Tried-and-True Strategies. Whether you’re dealing with a sudden realization of your own challenges like this, or have been working steadily for some time to reduce your anxieties and fears, there’s good news. Tried-and-true strategies, tactics, and approaches exist to get you back on track. They are the exercises you will find in The Confidence Book. There are two ways to think of this: (a) reviving a once strong but now weakened level of self-belief, or (b) gaining a new level of confidence. Either way, the practical approaches and exercises you’ll find in the book's pages will lead to a newly confident you.

75 Ways to Reduce Your Anxiety and Let Go of Your Fears!

The Confidence Book and How It Can Help You

I wrote The Confidence Book based on a simple but powerful formula. It is a holistic approach to making you a more confident and less anxious person. Importantly, that includes the ability to know how to continually enhance your confidence, along with your comfort level around others, and the knowledge of how to succeed when dealing with them.

We All Deal with Doubts and Insecurities. The Confidence Book is meant for people from all walks of life, and is unrelated to your job or profession or anything else about you that’s very specific. If you’re human, you're faced with the same doubts and insecurities that all of us are. Like everyone else, you’re dealing with other people who have complex personalities, just like you. And wherever you live and whatever your lifestyle, chances are you struggle to keep up with the many demands of your time and would like to find a quick and reliable way to relax. That, too, is in these pages.

The seventy-five exercises in The Confidence Book will help you in four specific areas: (1) calming your nerves and learning to relax; (2) reducing your anxiety and fears; (3) becoming a more confident individual; and (4) improving your success in social and business situations. They are proven techniques to help you become a less anxious and fearful person. At the same time, they will build your self-confidence as you learn how to live fully in the moment.

THE TWELVE KEY AREAS OF FOCUS

Here are the twelve key areas of focus of the book. You will discover the benefits of learning and practicing these techniques by doing the exercises in each of these sections:

  1. Relaxation exercises
  2. Breathing techniques
  3. The brain’s role in fear and anxiety
  4. Body awareness
  5. Practicing mindfulness to live fully in the moment
  6. Cognitive restructuring to change your negative thinking
  7. Using positive visualization
  8. Biofeedback
  9. Body language and nonverbal communication
  10. Vocal dynamics and voice improvement
  11. Improving your social and business interactions
  12. Awareness of and implementing your brand

Are You Ready To Show The World Your Best Face? For all of us, the things you say and do and the way you relate to other people make up “the face you show the world.” It’s much more than the way you dress or groom yourself or the social standing you possess. And it goes far beyond the level of knowledge and professionalism you display, because it becomes a central part of your personal life.

Your image or brand is important for two reasons. First, of course, it affects how people perceive you, judge you, and make decisions about you, including what they think about your personality, abilities, and intentions. And that affects how they feel about you, and whether they want to be around you! That’s all part of the first reason. The second is, you yourself are strongly affected by your own perceptions about how people perceive you and how you feel about yourself.

Consider the difference in the way you feel when you’re nicely turned out and on your way to an exciting social event. Now compare that to when you’ve just thrown some clothes on. You know you're a mess, but you just have to make a quick stop at the grocery store before you start getting ready and . . . oops! you just ran into her or him, or some other important person!

Fake Confidence?—Why Not Achieve the Real Thing?

Of course it’s true that confidence breeds confidence. If you act and carry yourself confidently—if you broadcast confidence—the feedback loop is a reliable one: those you interact with will also have confidence in you. Sometimes, however, it’s simply a case of fake-it-till-you-make-it. At these times, you may not have the luxury of being confident, so much as you have to appear so. (See Exercise 47 in the book, "Fake-It-Till-You-Make-It: How to Broadcast Confidence (Even If You're Not Feeling Any," for help with that one.) There are simply times when you need to get others to have confidence in you, by hook or by crook.

But there’s no need for you to worry about that right now. The pages of The Confidence Book are meant to actually make you less anxious, more relaxed, not as fearful, and above all, on the path to developing a genuinely more confident you, not just making it seem that way.
